Do not just walk up to a table and say “What openings do you have?” A Food Recruiter is not looking for a jack of all trades that will take what they can get. They want a specialist that will add value to the team and immediately start moving the company toward its ultimate goals. Do your research about the restaurants before you go to the job fair. Find out which restaurants are going to be in attendance and what openings that they have in their roster. Then speak directly about the opening and why you would be the best person for the job.
Notice that several of these have a second question at the end – “Why?” You should be prepared to include “why” for all your answers so you can show that your skills match the job.
When you’re considering your answer, it can help to find one or two specific situations that illustrate your point and be prepared to talk about those.
If you do not have this strong foundation of successful elements in your food service executive recruiters when seeking CEO Jobs, VP Jobs, CFO Jobs, CIO Jobs, or VP Sales Jobs, you are headed down the road to a mediocre and a barely adequate search for executive jobs.

Similarly, if they have the time, you may get their attention if your profession and industry are closely aligned with the kind of work they do, and your career trajectory is impressive. They will judge how placeable you are, that is, how likely it is that one of their clients would want to hire you. If there is a strong fit, then yes, they may make time for you.
If your employer offers you a chance for new duties, take it. After all, the risks associated with a new challenge are not greater than continuing to butt your head against the glass wall.
